My unexpected (school) year as a Special Education teacher. (RE: How did I get here??)
I have always loved learning. It is an insatiable passion of mine. It's a never-ending, difficult, and sometimes tedious task but it is the most rewarding thing I've experienced in my life (obligatory note: yes, tied with being a mother. )
In the fall of 2023, I re-entered the workforce after being a stay at home mom to my young kids for a total of eight years. I was volunteering my time on the Executive Board of my child's elementary school Parent Teacher Organization. The principal announced a need for an instructional assistant. She didn't know it at the time, but I was previously employed (pre-kids!) as a Spanish Teacher of a non-profit organization and worked as a tutor in California. After careful consideration and deliberation, I decided to jump back into the workforce.
In the winter of 2023, I decided to pursue my Transition to Teaching license to become a general education teacher. In the late summer of 2024, I was offered a position as a Special Education teacher. In a whirlwind of paperwork, I officially became licensed as a general education teacher and Special Education educator.
